Ok here now settled in and trying to get into the routine. . . . . First step find running trails - check. next step a descent pool - well sort of check. next find riding routes - again sort of check.
The first few weeks have been more of a "get settled in" than a get out there and punch out a 4 hour ride or 2 hour runs, but getting an idea of where to go and what is possible has been the plan. There are plenty of bush running trails thanks to the royal gardens, parklands of Den Haag and the sands of Scheveningen. MY explanaition of the "bush" trails is that they look exactly like something out of Robin Hood in Sherwood forest. However Hills well thats pretty much not an option, this place is flat....dead flat during a 1.5hr run on monday i managed to find one hill, which was man made to put a lookout of sorts. when i say a hill i mean no more than 20 m above the ground, this place really is flat. I think stairs may have to be an option.
Having discovered my running routes it was time to find a pool, with the help of Google i managed to scope out 3 or 4 pools or as therye known here zwembad. I tell you we are lucky in Aus, out of the 4 i checked out the best i could find was a 25m pool without the overflow drains and one lane rope. dont know why but they dont like using lane ropes over here. Well if anything ill have some sort of open water feel pumping out sets with no overlow for wash and no lane ropes. luckily however the oldies tend to move over when they see you get in which is nice and give you a little room to follow your black line up and down.
Bike - well Holland has more bike path than we do roads in australia, im sure of it. if there is a road you can almost garuntee there is a bikepath next to it, then there is the bike paths that cut through the suburbs. The rason riding your bike is so much easier than driving. Nothing yet to report on trails and sights for riding yet.... have been a little lazy and i only put my babies together yesterday.
But something to mention, thank god for my hard case. Any one out there after a had case i used the triall3sports dual bike case. And im glad i did. When we went to pick them up from customs, to my bemusement they carried them out with a froklift on thier side underneath a load of boxes.............as you can gather i was happy as larry to see that they had taken care and really looked after them, but luckily my carbon wheels and frames remained unbroken, though with some cosmetic scratches, i am lucky i had that case.
Anyway things starting to move along, and soon to start prepping for my marathon in mid to late Febuary, unsure where it will be yet, there is so many to chose from over here. But not racing till June need to keep something on the horizon. But still keep an eye out theres plenty more to come.
Enjoy
Dan.
