About Me

In October 2011 I made the decision to retire from a successful Hockey career to peruse a new sporting endeavour . . . . Triathlon!!. Through this blog I am wanting to capture my development, progression, the changes, and challenges I have experienced on the way to trying to be successful in an entirely different sport dynamic. I hope you enjoy the read.

The Training Update - Phase 2 - De Fiets!

De Fiets - (Translated - The Bike)

Well really if you want to train for the bike the Netherlands is the place to do it. 000's of km's of cycle paths. Only draw back.......wind, lots and lots of wind. I think i already blogged about our trip to Gouda and the crazy winds we experinced on the way home, but to my amazement there isworse. I had never thought the wind could be that strong on a normal day that you just cannot ride. Somewhere around the 100km mark, where it is hard enough to walk in a straight line let alone ride a bike....but still i tried and failed.

Moving on to the positives ithere are some good riding trails all through Holland, with is every trail located and named just like you would a road on a map, which you can find on the internet. It is really handy, plan before you go then just follow the signs. My favourite ride being along the LF1b - a bike trail stretching all the way along the easter coastline somethign like 200km North of Den Haag and 100km South. Ive attached some photos to show you some of the ladscapes we get to ride through. It is pretty refreshing even if you have to work your butt of into the wind.

Maybe they could be better but its just to give an idea. If you want to know where exactly its north or Scheveningen on the west coast. Take note NO HILLS IN SIGHT!!

Moving on, this place is great to ride but i soon realised that to make it through winter months riding outside just simply wasnt going to happen. Me and the cold really dont mix that well...and Reg if you read this .....you would be a walking popsicle!!! ........Thus Enter my new trainer, the Taxc Flow Ergo trainer, and not a week too soon. I think she and i will get to know each other very well by winters end. Though lets just hope we get along well.... :-). For giggles here is a picture of the new set up.
I Will update my run training very soon i promise in the next day or so just need to get all the photos etc together.
Enjoy Dan / Daniel / Edgey.

  2. HA ha! I also heard she was trying to make out with a good looking Cervelo. Now that offspring would generate some speed.
