About Me

In October 2011 I made the decision to retire from a successful Hockey career to peruse a new sporting endeavour . . . . Triathlon!!. Through this blog I am wanting to capture my development, progression, the changes, and challenges I have experienced on the way to trying to be successful in an entirely different sport dynamic. I hope you enjoy the read.

Match 13 - HDS.

Sunday the 28th and so comes game 13 against HDS.  Last meeting we had saw us win 10-0 but his time round things could be very different with HDS finding some form of late against the other mid table sides.  As usual we started strong putting thier defence under pressure.  The result causing mistakes in thier defence and a quick opening goal from our centre fwd ( :-D ) putting us in front 1-0.  Not sure what happened next but within 5 min HDS levelled it up through some confusing defence top to bottom making it 1-1.  The scores stayed locked until just before half time when we decided to come out of our little snooze and converted a corner making it 2-1 heading into the break.    A spirited talk from Frank we came out strongly scoring 2 quick goals to take us up 4-1.  From here the game was all in our control, playing some good hockey passing the ball well and creating easy opportunities.  For me it was good  day getting my chance on the corner and finding some form of a few years ago on the flick bagging 2.  Final score really saw us run away with it winning 8-1.  An eventful day for myself netting a few goals, starting at centre forward, finishing at fullback, with also a stint in the middle.  Some very good signs from the team to pull together, play some relaxed hockey when we were under pressure and keep driving to win by more.  The result keeps us on top and unbeaten with 39pts. The results from yesterday and a good picture (hehehe) can be found on the hockey.nl site here ( http://www.hockey.nl/16526/Mannen-Eerste-Klasse-Cartouche-blijft-op-titelkoers )....Cheers Coen.

Next week we have what could be the deciding match of the season against the 2nd place Lieden (36pts).  If we win we could almost seal our poistion as champions with only 8 games remaining (given there is no finals).  Only time will tell but the few bus loads of supporters travelling to Lieden to cheer us on on sunday will help the cause making a good atmosphere and drowning out some of the home fans.  Predictions of around 2000 spectators will definitely make it interesting, it is going to be an intense game of hockey, almost as good as grand final day and i cannot wait. Hopefully i will have some good news to report on come next monday.

Until then..............
