About Me

In October 2011 I made the decision to retire from a successful Hockey career to peruse a new sporting endeavour . . . . Triathlon!!. Through this blog I am wanting to capture my development, progression, the changes, and challenges I have experienced on the way to trying to be successful in an entirely different sport dynamic. I hope you enjoy the read.

The Training Update - Triathlon Phase 1 - SWIM

Week 5 of my "Peak Performance" program from the guys at TriNova multisport and finally a recovery week - and to be honest couldnt have come at a better time with the temperatures here creeping into the negative. It has been a while since i wrote about my training so there is a bit to write but ill try not to get carried away.

Triathlon being S-B-R it only seems logical that i start with the swim. It has taken some time and the swimming has been sporatic at best but finally after 8 weeks i managed to find a good quality swim facility, im not sure why but it seems as though swimming is really only popular to the old timers, well outside of the squads etc.

As a result, im not really sure why, but they dont like to use lane ropes. At most one rope at lane 1 for the "snel" swimmers, outside this it's "find a line and go for it" up and down dodging as many grandmas as you can. Luckily they tend to stay clear of the so called fast lane, leaving it for myself and Alicia (my all reliable Girlfriend, Dietitian, Training partner and Alarm clock) to plod up and down.

All that said, i have still managed to creep in at least one swim each week to make sure i still keep a feel for the water and keep around a descent time for that aerobic cycle. Unfortunately no photos of the pool yet but ill try to get them for the next update.......
